According to MaginfyMoney.com, McAllen-Edinburg-Mission and Brownsville-Harlingen local metros are five and 10, respectively, in the top 10 best places to live on a six figure salary. The national ranking analyzes 381 major metros across the U.S. to see where a family earning $100,000 can live most (and least) comfortably.
MagnifyMoney factors in taxes, housing, transportation and other basic items for a two-earner household with two adults and one child.
According to the report, the Southeast and Southwest tied as the best region. Six-figure families in both these areas use an average of 70 percent of their income on basic expenses (the national average is 75 percent).
Families in McAllen-Edinburg-Mission experience an average of $2,367 surplus each month after $4,259 in monthly expenses, while those in Brownsville-Harlingen average a $2,312 surplus each month after $4,315 in expenses.
