The Jankster himself, Lamar Jones, is expanding his horizons in getting everyone from home cooks to foodies Janktafied.
Jones is launching the new The Jank BBQ spice rub Feb. 8 at the H-E-B located at 10th and Trenton in McAllen. From 10-11:30 a.m., community leaders will cook along with Lamar in preparing fast, simple and healthy recipes.
The public will also be able to sample Baketafied Jank Brussel Sprouts and Jankanero Dry Rub Chicken sliders. Dessert is Marbled Jankanero Cornbread Cake with Janktafied ice cream.
Jones has been a hometown success story, with his signature sauces being used as far away as Pittsburg in the Pittsburg Steelers training facility. He began his culinary career back in 2009, when working as a musician and special ed teacher’s aide in Weslaco, he began development of his barbeque sauce. In 2005, even though he did not win, he caught the eyes and taste buds of H-E-B’s Primo Pick contest judges. Since then, his sauces have graced the shelves of H-E-Bs across the state.
