Alternative energy wind towers arrive at Port of Brownsville

After aggressively pursuing by the Port of Brownsville and private partners, alternative energy wind towers arrived at the Port of Brownsville on Jan. 9 from China as part of the Los Vientos, Willacy County wind farm.

The collaborative effort to unload and transport the wind towers included Dix Shipping, Gulfstream Marine and Lone Star Transportation.  Port officials are expecting a second shipment within the week.  Port officials are actively working with various alternative energy companies to realize green operations on Port property and to also continue this type of cargo movement.

Early projections indicate that for the year ending 2011 the Port will surpass not only cargo figures from 2010 but also those of 2009.

  1. It is a great thing that we are advancing into an alternative form of power here in the Valley, and working our way out of oil dependency one step at a time. There will be much money to be made by many companies with the installation of the wind towers. Maybe, I am just being greedy but whats wrong with buying the towers from USA companies instead of China our nemesis.
